Current Responsibilities
Director of DG ENER Directorate D – Nuclear Energy, Safety and ITER.
The principal responsibilities of Directorate D include: legal issues, supervising the EU’s contribution
to the international ITER nuclear fusion project; Euratom’s international relations; economic analysis
of the nuclear fuel cycle; implementation of the EU Directives on nuclear safety, on the basic safety
standards, and on the management of spent fuel and radioactive waste; follow up of the EU’s nuclear
safety stress tests; implementation of the EU’s assistance programme for the decommissioning of
nuclear power plants in Bulgaria, Lithuania and Slovakia, radiological emergency preparedness and
response; monitoring of environmental radioactivity.
